The Borough of Queenscliffe last night demonstrated its commitment to enhancing community engagement by resolving at its Ordinary Meeting of Council to implement Portfolio Reference Groups to enhance community participation and engagement in Council's decision making.

Each Councillor has been delegated responsibility for the following portfolio areas:
„X Sustainability & Local Environment (Cr Lloyd Davies)
„X Community Development (Cr Helene Butler)
„X Business & Tourism (Cr John Burgess)
„X Planning, Heritage & Community Assets (Cr David Mitchell)
„X Governance, Finance & External Relations (Cr Bob Merriman)

Mayor Bob Merriman said that this Council is committed to building partnerships, increasing community participation and generating a broad range of ideas and perspectives to improve Council decision making.

"The response to the invitation to participate was fantastic." Cr Merriman said.

"We were all very impressed in the quality of applications received and we are confident that the representatives we've selected will bring a broad range of the ideas and perspectives to each group" Cr Merriman said.

The initial focus of the Reference Groups is to inform the development, then monitor the implementation of the Council Plan. This Plan will guide the direction of the Borough for the next four years.

The wider community will have an opportunity to put forward their ideas and perspectives on the draft 2009-2013 Council Plan once it is placed on public submission during May 2009.
