Hesse Street Roundabout
Following Council’s recent endorsement of the final plan, the tender is currently advertised for construction of a roundabout at the northern end of Hesse Street in the coming weeks.
It will be situated at the 5-way intersection of Hesse, Symonds and Wharf Streets in Queenscliff.
The project will address long-held community concerns about safety at the site especially during busy holiday times.
Borough of Queenscliffe Mayor Councillor Helene Cameron said the new roundabout will improve traffic management at the intersection.
The State Government’s Country Roads and Bridge program has funded this project.
Under the original plans for the roundabout, Symonds Street would have been closed to through traffic.
However, a number of amendments were made following a period of consultation with the local community who wanted to see Symonds Street remain open.
As part of the project, the A.W. Hodgetts Reserve, in Symonds Street, will be enlarged with additional parkland and there will be no loss of car parks.
It will also undergo beautification works and landscaping.
It is expected that construction of the roundabout will begin mid-year and be completed by September.
Any enquiries in relation to this project should be directed to Council's Customer Service on 5258 1377.
Tenders have now closed.
