Community contributions acknowledged
Council has approved two applications for the placement of memorial plaques to acknowledge members of the Borough community.
A plaque will be placed on a public seat near Royal Park to acknowledge Leanne McDonald, and a second plaque is to be placed on a public seat on the Point Lonsdale Promenade, near the end of Cheshunt Street, to acknowledge William Brian Fleming AM.
‘Council is delighted to approve these memorial applications and honour two exceptional people for their contributions to the Borough and the wider community,’ said Borough of Queenscliffe Mayor, Councillor Tony Francis.
As a volunteer at the Point Lonsdale Primary School Easter Fair, the Queenscliff Music Festival and the Point Lonsdale Tennis Club, and in the early days of the Hot Rods visits to Queenscliff, Leanne McDonald’s tireless dedication and input were acknowledged by all who worked with her.
William Brian Fleming AM was an eminent surgeon, widely recognised and awarded for his expertise in head and neck surgery and cancer treatment. He was also a co-founder of the Clinical Oncological Society of Australia and a Vice President of the Anti-Cancer Council of Victoria.
