Friday, 20 October 2017

Council extends warmest congratulations to five members of the Borough of Queenscliffe community who have been selected to participate in the Commonwealth Games 2018 Queen’s Baton Relay.

John Reginald Beazley, Meagan Canaway, Jacquie Johnston, Council’s nominee, Tom Limb, and Suzanne Winton will each take a turn with the Baton when it arrives in Queenscliff on 12 February 2018.

“The batonbearers have been nominated and selected for their achievements and contributions to their community,” said Borough of Queenscliffe Mayor, Cr Tony Francis. “This is a great honour and presents a once in a lifetime opportunity to be part of history in the lead up to the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games.”

The Borough of Queenscliffe will be well-represented when the Baton arrives in Queenscliff, with five out of 12 batonbearers from the Bellarine Peninsula residing in either Queenscliff or Point Lonsdale.

The Queen’s Baton Relay is a Games tradition that celebrates the Commonwealth’s diversity, inspires community pride and excites people about the world-class festival of sports and culture to come.

Detailed information about the street route that the Baton will take when it arrives in Queenscliff will be released during November 2017.
