Council grants support community projects

The Borough of Queenscliffe Council has awarded 14 grants at the civic celebration for the 2016/17 Community Grants at the Queenscliff Town Hall on Tuesday 9 August.

Borough of Queenscliffe Mayor, Councillor Helene Cameron, said the grants program is designed to encourage and assist community groups to be actively involved in their community, providing funding for services, activities and events that benefit our community.

“As always, the grants will go towards a diverse range of projects however this year sees a particular emphasis on assisting organisations to improve their operations through the purchasing of equipment, the celebration of key events, and improvements to training and education practices,” said Councillor Cameron.
“This includes important grants to our local sporting clubs, museums, service clubs and maritime organisations.

“This year’s community grants recipients have put a lot of work into applying for their community grant, focusing on meeting community needs and developing a sense of community spirit, pride and ownership.”

“Congratulations to the recipients. I look forward to seeing some of these projects come to life,” she said.

Each year Council provides up to $20,000 of grant funding to community organisations that support community, art and cultural projects that enhance the well-being and quality of life of the Borough residents. The total funding allocation this year was $19,695.05.
