Members of the 1st Queenscliff Sea Scouts Cub Scouts recently organised and participated in a litter collection event to contribute to Clean Up Australia.

On Tuesday 26 February 2019, 11 Sea Scout Cubs, plus leaders and parents spent the evening collecting litter from the Borough’s foreshores, starting from Lovers Walk and finishing at the Ocean View Car Park. The litter collected was made up of a variety of items that may otherwise have ended up in our waterways, including:
- Aluminum cans, glass and plastic bottles
- Plastic food packaging
- Paper (tissues, napkins, newspapers)
- Cigarette butts
- Metal strapping
- Rusty metal bed frame
- Plastic bags
- Dog poo bags

The Cubs collected two bags of litter and one bag of recyclables at this year’s event. Borough of Queenscliffe Mayor, Cr Bob Merriman, noted that this is a reduction on the amount collected last year and the year before.

“Hopefully this reflects a change in people’s habits. I respectfully remind our residents and visitors to use the public litter bins provided by Council, or take your rubbish home with you to stop the spread of litter into our coastal woodlands and marine environment.”

“Council congratulates the Cubs and their leaders on a job well done,” said Cr Merriman.
