Review of Mayoral and Councillor Allowances

Friday, 28 April 2017

The Borough of Queenscliffe Council has reviewed the proposed level of Mayoral and Councillor allowances for the next four years.

There have been no increases in the Mayoral and Councillor allowances for the past four years.

During the community consultation, 11 submissions were received and focused on the relative level of the Mayoral allowance compared to the Councillor allowance, and the proposed level of the increase in the Mayoral allowance.

Council has listened to the community through the community consultation process and has determined to increase the Mayoral allowance by 2%, consistent with the level of the 2017/18 rate cap set by the Minister for Local Government. It represents an increase of 0.5% each year or $5 per week over the next 4 years.

Council also determined to make no increase to the existing Councillor allowance.

Council acknowledges and thanks all members of our community for their time and effort in preparing submissions on the levels of allowances.
