Mayoral and Councillors Allowances Review

Notice is hereby given under Section 74 of the Local Government Act 1989 (‘‘Act’’) that Borough of Queenscliffe Council (‘‘Council’’) is to review and determine the level of the Mayoral and Councillors allowances by 30 June 2017, after the general election as required by Section 75(1) of the Act.

For Borough of Queenscliffe Council, the specified allowance ranges and limits allowed equate to the following amount established by the State Government: Councillors $8,324 to $19,834 per annum plus 9.5% superannuation. Mayor up to $59,257 per annum plus 9.5% superannuation.

Council at its Ordinary Meeting on 23 February 2017 resolved that the Mayoral and Councillors allowances be recommended to be set at the following amounts for Category 1 councils being:
• $19,834 per annum (100% of Part A of the Category 1 limit) plus Part B equivalent to 9.5% superannuation guarantee, totalling $21,718 - Councillor allowance
• $56,294 per annum (95% of Part A of the Category 1 limit) plus Part B equivalent to 9.5% superannuation guarantee, totalling $61,642 - Mayoral allowance

Any person wishing to make a written submission in respect of the review of allowances must lodge the submission before 4:00pm on Monday 27 March 2017.

Council will hold a public meeting to hear any submissions on the Mayoral and Councillors allowances at the Queenscliff Town Hall, 50 Learmonth Street, Queenscliff on Thursday, 30 March 2017 at 6.30pm. The meeting will proceed if one or more persons request to be heard in support of their submission.
