Native plants

Residents are encouraged to grow native plants in their garden, particularly those which are indigenous to this area and can withstand the salt air and sea breezes. Planting indigenous plants will:

  • Maintain the character of our coastal environment
  • Provide a low-maintenance garden
  • Encourage birdlife
  • Preserve the plant species.

Examples of plants indigenous to the Queenscliff and Point Lonsdale area are:

  • Coast (or grey) saltbush
  • Coast swainson pea
  • Coast banksia
  • Correa
  • Sweet wattle
  • Moonah
  • Coast daisy-bush
  • Tussock grass.

The Queenscliff Community Nursery stocks these and many more native plants. See their listing in the Community Directory for details.
