What is green power?
Green power is clean energy produced from renewable energy sources such as wind, solar and hydro-power.
How is Council investing in green power?
Since July 2011, Borough of Queenscliffe Council has purchased 100% renewable energy for its four caravan parks, which rank in Council's top five highest users of electricity. By purchasing 100% renewable energy for these sites, Council abated 301 tonnes of carbon emissions in 2012–13.
What is the GreenPower program?
The Borough of Queenscliffe Council purchases its 100% wind and solar energy through the GreenPower program.
GreenPower is the only voluntary government accredited program that enables energy retailers to purchase renewable energy on behalf of customers.
The program is a joint initiative of the ACT, NSW, SA, QLD and VIC governments. GreenPower guarantees that the renewable electricity you buy from energy suppliers meets stringent environmental standards.
You too can make a difference by switching to GreenPower. Today more than 700,000 Australian households and businesses support GreenPower. Visit the GreenPower website to find out how to switch.
What are the benefits of the GreenPower program?
By switching to GreenPower, you will:
- Reduce your household greenhouse gas emissions
- Stop depleting natural resources (e.g. coal)
- Help to increase demand for renewable energy so that the industry can compete with coal and gas power.
