| AUSTRALIA DAY – The Biggest Celebration | | The Borough of Queenscliffe Australia Day Celebrations take place on Saturday 26 January 2008 at Pt Lonsdale School Hall, beginning at 11.00 am. The celebrations include an Awards Ceremony, Flag Raising and an Affirmation Ceremony where people can make a statement of commitment to the values that unite all Australians.
‘Australia Day is the biggest day of celebration in the country’ said Mayor, Cr Pat Semmens. ‘On 26 January in the Borough we come together to celebrate what’s great about Australia and being Australian. We acknowledge our past, celebrate the present and look confidently to our future’ she said.
The formal part of the day includes the presentation of the Australia Day Awards which allows the community to celebrate the achievements of its citizens and groups and gain inspiration from their efforts.
The presentation of the awards will be made by the Mayor, Cr Pat Semmens and the Australia Day Ambassador for the Borough of Queenscliffe, Mr Mark Stone. Mark Stone is Chief Executive of Parks Victoria. He is also Director of National Parks, the Variety Club Children’s Charity, the People and Parks Foundation and member of the Victoria Police Blue Ribbon Day Council.
The celebrations feature great local talent and support from many of our community groups. The Queenscliff Community Nursery will give away a free native tree to each family at the celebration, a sausage sizzle will be provided by the Lions Club and there will be attractions including face painting and displays from the primary school students about our local community.
Australia Day Celebrations are a Community Celebration where everyone is welcome. Transport can be arranged or if you have any special requirements please contact Council offices on 52 58 1377.
