| The planning system acknowledges that sometimes your plans can change, or you can experience delays in the commencement of works, or operation. If you have an existing planning permit, you are obligated to comply with all the conditions. However, if you would like to make some changes, or need more time, you can apply for an amendment or extension to your planning permit.
Planning permits consist of two documents– the permit and the approved plans. You can make changes to the permit and/or the plans by lodging an Amendment to a Planning Permit form and additional requirements. If you are making very minor changes to the approved plans, this can be done as an amendment to the permit. Any changes beyond this should be submitted as part of a new application. It is considered that lodging a new application makes it easier for neighbours to understand what you are applying for. Most applications made to Council are advertised.
In addition, you can also apply to extend the length of a planning permit, most permits expire two years from the date of issue unless otherwise specified on the permit. Any application to extend the length of a permit must be made before the permit expires.
For more information on amending or extending a permit and how to lodge your application, please refer to the Amending or extending a permit fact sheet.
