Hello to all residents, ratepayers and visitors to the Borough of Queenscliffe. While the weather has been cold, things have been heating up at Council as a range of projects are coming to fruition. From putting the finishing touches on the Queenscliffe Hub to preparing for the start of our kerbside food waste collection service next week, there’s lots happening here at the Borough.
Refurbished playground at Ganes Reserve now open
Last week I had the honour of opening the newly-refurbished playground at Ganes Reserve in Point Lonsdale.
Following several weeks of work, Council has completely replaced the old play equipment at the reserve, which was tired and starting to degrade. The new playground is colourful and exciting, and features a nest swing, climbing nets, a track rider, slides and much more to explore. Thank you to one of our youngest Point Lonsdale residents Frankie, who joined me at the opening to test drive the new equipment.
To add to the good news, the old equipment that was on site before the refurbishment isn’t going to waste. Our friends at Rotary Australia will be restoring some of this equipment and using it to create new playgrounds in disadvantaged communities overseas. The next time you visit the brand new Ganes Reserve playground, you can have twice as much fun knowing that old equipment is giving children elsewhere in the world something great to play on too.
Making sure our playgrounds are attractive and interesting places to play is an important part of our community infrastructure work here at Council. I hope local families will enjoy using the new playground as much as I’ve enjoyed opening it.
Kerbside food waste collection starts next week
Our very first food waste collection will be this coming Monday, 1 August. I couldn’t be more excited to kick off a new way of managing our waste that’s more environmentally and financially sustainable.
By now, every household in the Borough should have a received a kitchen caddy, and most households will have also received a larger, 240-litre recycling bin. If you haven’t already, open up your kitchen caddy and read the information pack it contains on how to use your new bin system. Your information pack will give you all the tools you need to put your bins out on the right day and with the right waste inside them.
If you need extra help, there are a number of fantastic resources you can use. First, download the Borough Bins app on your smartphone in the App Store or Google Play store. The app will give you collection day reminders, help you sort your waste correctly, and provide a range of information about how to use your kerbside bin service. You can also visit our website at queenscliffe.vic.gov.au/bins for comprehensive information on your kerbside bin service, including a recording of an information session held on Tuesday 26 July.

Hub humming along
If you’ve been in Hesse Street this week, you will have noticed construction crews putting the finishing touches on the Queenscliffe Hub. With only final details remaining, we’re looking forward to opening the project in the coming weeks and inviting you to take a look at the fantastic new facilities inside.
