A great honour to be elected Mayor
I am truly honoured and privileged to be elected Mayor of the Borough of Queenscliffe. I want to thank my fellow Councillors for their confidence in me, and Cr Merriman for holding the position to the highest possible standard as Mayor for the past year.
Finishing the many unfinished projects in the Borough will be a priority for myself and Council over the coming year. We also need to further progress conversations with the City of Greater Geelong around the realignment of the Borough’s boundaries.
I’m very excited and looking forward to the year ahead, working with my fellow Councillors, Council officers and the community. Please don’t hesitate to ask me a question or let me know your thoughts on how we can make the Borough even better for everyone.
Lighting of the Point Lonsdale Christmas Tree
The lighting of the Point Lonsdale Christmas Tree returns for another year this Saturday 7th December with a wonderful community celebration event to take place. Carols will commence at 7:30pm on the outdoor stage at the Point Lonsdale Primary School hall, while the lights on the tree will be switched on as the sun goes down at 8:30pm. Queenscliff Fire Brigade will be providing a BBQ and there are other food stalls available. The show goes on, regardless of inclement weather, so bring the whole family down for a night of festive fun.
Evening shopping in Hesse St
Residents and visitors to Queenscliff are encouraged to shop local this festive season, with local business owners organising two nights of extended trading along Hesse Street in the weeks leading up to Christmas. Santa will be making an appearance too, so bring the whole family along on the evenings of Friday 13 and Friday 20 December, where you’ll be able to shop local until 7:30pm.
Budget survey a success
Council would again like to thank everyone who participated in our recent online survey requesting your suggestions for the 2020-21 Budget. This is the first time we have engaged the community at such a deep level on the individual aspects of the budget, and the detailed and constructive comments we received tell us that this was an extremely worthwhile exercise. The full report is now available to read on Council’s website.
New swimming pool and spa laws
The Victorian Government has introduced new laws as of 1 December 2019 that improve swimming pool and spa safety for residents and families across the state. With those new laws comes a mandatory registration scheme requiring all property owners (including landlords) with a pool or spa to register it with Council before 14 April 2020.
Property owners will be required to have their swimming pool and spa barriers inspected by a registered private building surveyor or inspector, and they must be deemed compliant to continue their use. For more information and to register your pool or spa, go to queenscliffe.vic.gov.au/pools
