Sale of Council-owned land endorsed
Council has endorsed changes to the proposed development plan for the Council-owned land at 61–75 Murray Road that will ensure single road access only to the residential lots suggested in the plan.
Council endorsed the changes at its Ordinary Meeting on Thursday 24 January 2019 within a broader resolution to proceed with the sale of the land at 61–75 Murray Road.
“Our decision to amend the proposed development plan responds to concerns that direct access to each of the residential lots would have an adverse impact on the roadside swale,” said Borough of Queenscliffe Mayor, Cr Bob Merriman.
“The amended plan will replace the existing crossover at the site with a new single road access to the proposed subdivision,” said Cr Merriman.
Sale of the Murray Road land will proceed by a public process such as an expression of interest, a tender or an auction on commercial terms at market value. Council has authorised Borough of Queenscliffe Chief Executive Officer, Mr Lenny Jenner, to take the necessary actions required to achieve sale of the land in accordance with the Local Government Act 1989 and the Borough of Queenscliffe’s ‘Sale, Exchange or Transfer of Council Land’ policy.
Council invited submissions on the proposed sale of the Murray Road land for a one-month period from Saturday 3 November 2018 until Monday 3 December 2018. Ten submissions were received prior to the closing date; eight from individual community members and one each from the Point Lonsdale Civic Association and the Queenscliffe Civic Association.
“We will contact each submitter directly to thank them for their contribution,” said Cr Merriman.
“On behalf of Council I would also like to take this opportunity to publicly thank the members of the community who took the time to detail their feedback to Council and speak to us in support of their concerns and suggestions.”
“Council will keep the community informed via updates on our website and local media as the sale of Council-owned land at Murray Road progresses,” Cr Merriman concluded.
