Fishing rod casting out over Port Phillip Bay

Queenscliff built its history on fishing fleets and couta boats. While it is no longer a commercial fishing port, it still caters well for the recreational fisher. There are plenty of places to wet a line in the Borough for those on foot, while those with a boat or vessel can enter the water via the boat ramp at J. L. Jordan Reserve, which was upgraded by the Victorian Government in late 2022.

You will generally need a fishing licence in fish in the Borough, but they're easy enough to come by – you can get a licence online from the Victorian Fisheries Authority website before you arrive. A Recreational Fishing Licence covers all forms of recreational fishing in all of Victoria's marine, estuarine and freshwaters.
