The Borough residents turned out in strong numbers for Council’s annual e-waste collection event on Saturday 16 May, helping to safely dispose of unwanted electronic items.
A total of five tonnes of electronic waste was collected, with 310 vehicles visiting the Ocean View carpark to safely dispose of unwanted electrical items. Residents dropped off a wide range of household electronics, including televisions, computers, IT equipment, irons, toasters, kettles and vacuum cleaners.
Since introducing e-waste collections in 2012, Council has diverted more than 90 kilograms of electronic waste from landfill. This ongoing effort helps stop hazardous substances getting into soil and water and saving energy and resources that go into new products.
All items collected will be recycled by Sircel, giving these materials a second life through responsible resource recovery.
Council would like to thank the community for supporting the responsible recycling of electronic waste.
