At the Ordinary Meeting of Council in March 2025, the Council resolved to recognise the Borough of Queenscliffe’s museums and their collections as key social and economic assets.

In making the decision Council acknowledged the Museums significant contribution to the Borough’s heritage, arts, culture, community and economic development.

Council resolved to establish an advisory committee to oversee the integration of museums into the Borough’s Strategic Framework including the 2025 – 2029 Council Plan.

The advisory committee membership will include representatives from the museums and other heritage-based organisations in the Borough.

The committee will draw membership from residents and ratepayers with expertise or interest in museums, tourism, heritage, and economic development. Applications for this advisory group will close 12pm on 9 May 2025.

Candidates for the advisory committee will be selected through an Expression of Interest (EOI)

Role of Advisory Group

The primary purpose of the advisory committee will be to:

  • Prepare a museum destination strategy

This will involve:

  • Researching and understanding the role of contemporary museums

  • Understanding the broader economic development context of the Borough

  • Determining the value proposition of the museums

  • Developing a model for collaboration between the museums

  • Preparing an implementation plan for the museum destination strategy

  • Defining the role of Council

  • Making recommendations to Council

It is anticipated that the group will be stood up in July 2025 following the formal appointment of members, and meet monthly for approximately twelve months.
