Recently, Council had the pleasure of welcoming in three of our newest Australian citizens – Philip, Jessica and Gerhard, who were inducted in a citizenship ceremony last week. The event took place in the Hub and was attended by friends, family, Councillors and Officers.
Wadawurrung man Ash Skinner opened the formalities with a heartfelt Welcome to Country, before the Mayor gave a speech welcoming them into our Borough, our culture and our community.
Citizenship ceremonies are special events. They fulfil requirements under Australian citizenship law, yet also provide an important opportunity to officially welcome new citizens as full members of the Australian community. It's often an emotional experience for the new citizen as well as their host and guests.
