The Borough of Queenscliffe has endorsed Council’s 2023-24 draft budget, outlining the expenditure and resources required to achieve the strategic objectives of the Council Plan. A debt-free, balanced budget that focusses on addressing our current and future priorities, the draft budget is realistic about the challenging economy we are currently operating in.

A budget is one of the most important documents Council is responsible for, it sets out proposed priorities for the coming year, and how they will be met. The 2023-24 fiscal year draft budget responds to projects encouraged by our community, including directing $1 million of State Government funding to develop the Point Lonsdale Maritime & Defence Precinct. There is $160 000 for the Queenscliffe Recreation Reserve lighting upgrade, a fully grant-funded project that will result in improving community infrastructure for the Borough.

Council has dedicated $180 000 to the installation of heating and cooling in Town Hall, which will improve year-round community use of the venue. In response to coastal erosion, there’s $150 000 allocated to extending the existing Point Lonsdale Dog Beach fencing, minimising access, and increasing safety for our dog beach users.

Purposely focussing on key strategic objectives, the draft budget is set to support community well-being, protect our environment, and address climate change. There’s commitment to protect our distinctive coastal, cultural, and built environments, and to provide sustainable, suitable infrastructure that stands the test of time.

Community members are invited to make submissions on the documents now through until May 25, 2023. Submissions can be made in writing to info@queenscliffe.vic.gov.au or by post to 50 Learmonth Street, Queenscliff VIC 3225
