The Borough of Queenscliffe is asking its community to help set the direction of Council and the Borough for several years as it begins developing two strategic documents.

In line with the new Local Government Act 2020, Council is developing a Community Vision and a Council Plan to set targets and goals that guide council’s work for several years. The Community Vision will capture the community’s aspirations for what the Borough should be like ten years from now, while the Council Plan will set out Council’s role in achieving that vision. Both will central to Council’s work over the next four years.

Queenscliffe Mayor Ross Ebbels said community members will make key decisions about future goals and actions as part of a detailed consultation process. “Important strategic decisions in these documents will be made by residents, so I’d encourage anyone with an interest in our community’s future to share their ideas with us,” Cr Ebbels said. “There are plenty of ways to take part, and the ideas participants share will guide Council decisions for years to come.”

Residents and ratepayers can share their ideas online before 11:59pm on 28 March. Participants can also take part in open house sessions by visiting Council offices from 5pm – 7pm on 23 March, or 11am – 1pm on 27 March. A community panel will refine these ideas during a workshop stage in May, with more information about how to apply for the panel available closer to the date.

“These two documents will have long-term impacts on what our community looks like years from now,” said Cr Ebbels. “We’re looking forward to reading the ideas our local community shares with us and developing a vision for our community’s future alongside local residents.”
