Council elections

Council's local elections are conducted by the Victorian Electoral Commission (VEC). The current Council was elected in November 2020 and under the Local Government Act 2020 is elected for a four-year term.

Each Councillor is appointed a portfolio area, and has delegations to various boards, committees and associations that are listed in their profiles. The 2020 general election was held by postal ballot, with a Returning Officer appointed to the Borough to manage the conduct of the election, including candidate nominations and public enquiries at the Council offices. A countback was then held in April 2022 to fill an extraordinary vacancy on Council.

The VEC is required to carry out compulsory voting enforcement in the Borough, and any 'failure to vote' notices will be issued and managed by them.
